Attorney Michael Gabelman comes to Henderson, Mokhtari & Weatherly Co. L.P.A. after seven years with the Lake County Public Defender’s Office, where he was a Senior Felony Trial Attorney. He has successfully represented individuals in thousands of cases, ranging from the most serious of felonies to traffic offenses and juvenile delinquencies. He has earned a reputation amongst prosecutors and judges for his courtroom skills, tireless preparation of cases, and fierce and compassionate advocacy on behalf of his clients. As a result of his skill and experience, Mr. Gabelman has obtained the dismissal of charges in hundreds of cases and secured acquittals in cases widely thought to be unwinnable.
After earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan, Mr. Gabelman attended the Case Western Reserve University School of Law as a Noah Webster Law Scholarship Award Recipient. Excelling in criminal law and trial advocacy, he earned a spot on Case Western Reserve’s highly selective Jonathan M. Ault Mock Trial Team, where he successfully competed in national and local trial competitions. As a member of the team, he was awarded the Jonathan M. Ault Award for Trial Advocacy and selected for induction into The Order of the Barristers National Honor Society. He was additionally awarded the Paul J. Hergengroeder Prize for Outstanding Trial Advocacy and a CALI award for obtaining the highest grade in his Criminal Law and Psychiatry course.
As an attorney, Mr. Gabelman was twice selected to attend the National Defender Training Project’s intensive Trial Advocacy Program and was named a “Top 40 Under 40” by the National Trial Lawyers. He has additionally served as an Adjunct Professor of Case Western Reserve University School of Law’s mock trial team since 2017. Mr. Gabelman is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, Lake County Bar Association, Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and DUI Defense Lawyer’s Association. He is licensed to practice in all courts in the State of Ohio.
